Hand-Wipe Company Launches Program to Cut Hospital Infection Rates

Professional Disposables International, Inc. (PDI), the leader in wet wipe infection prevention, education and patient care, has announced the formation of a new program aimed at assisting hospitals to comply with hand and surface sanitization in an effort to reduce the spread of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs).

The PIT Crew, short for, “Preventing Infections Together,” was introduced at the 2007 34th Annual Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology Conference in San Jose, California.

“We’re excited about PDI’s role in helping to make hospitals a safer place,” says Joann Reilly, Director of Marketing, “It underscores our company’s commitment to a safer healthcare environment by continually developing new applications and products.”

The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to preventing the spread of infections in hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities. At each location, PDI will work with staff members to educate and train employees in the latest products and techniques in infection prevention, disinfection, hand hygiene and skin antisepsis.

“The PIT Crew is not just about infection control,” says Reilly. “It takes into consideration that successful prevention techniques must be a component of every employee’s training, from physicians to respiratory therapists and ICU patient care technicians. We will give the facilities with which we do business all the tools and training they need to be successful.”

The PIT Crew program works by assigning a PIT Crew Captain at each location who will facilitate training. PDI will provide the tools and educational materials needed. A basic overview of the program is available by logging on to www.pdipdi.com. CDs are also available by contacting your PDI Regional Sales Manager or by calling 800-999-6423.
