Fake Christmas trees erode the live-cut Oregon tree market

Associated Press – August 28, 2007 9:05 AM ET

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials say over the past decade, fake Christmas trees, most of which are manufactured in China, have eroded the live cut tree market.

They say real cut trees are not deforested but rather farm-raised and replanted annually. Oregon is the country’s largest Christmas tree-growing state.

Today, a news conference will be held at the Oregon State Department of Agriculture in Salem.

Formed by 2 of the largest Christmas tree growers in the U.S. — Holiday Tree Farms and Yule Tree Farms — are the Coalition of Environmentally-Conscious Growers.

They will recognize those growers who best exemplify sustainable growing practices.
